Cànan is delighted to announce that Moira MacIver from Lewis has been appointed to oversee Sgleog, our ground-breaking website for Gaelic-speaking teenagers, funded by Seirbheis nam Meadhanan Gàidhlig (Gaelic Media Services).
Moira joins on a seven-month contract to build on the success of Sgleog while Marlene MacDonald heads of to see to the rather more important task of having a baby!
Moira was chosen after an interview process which saw several high-quality applications, and brings a wealth of experience from her background in the media, having worked with Discovery Channel, Scottish Media Group and Channel 5.
Moira will work from Glasgow giving Sgleog, and Cànan, a much more visible presence in Central and Southern Scotland where significant numbers of Gaelic-speakers live, and where Scotland’s first all-Gaelic school, in Glasgow, is situated.
Moira, who admits that her friends told her she’d be perfect for the role because she still thinks like a teenager, takes up her post officially from 20th February.
Cànan’s Chief Executive, Donella Beaton, said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Moira, who is enthusiastic, is experienced in both the media and dealing with young people and has excellent spoken and written Gaelic. We’re sure she’ll make a positive impact on Sgleog, and we look forward to working with her.”
