Cànan, the award-winning Isle of Skye-based company specialising in software development, print and web design, and language projects is pleased to announce the establishment of an exciting new Research and Software Development Department. It is hoped it will further help the Company to continue delivering innovative solutions for learning and communication.
The R&D move will allow Cànan to focus more energy on developing key ideas and projects, particularly in the field of computational linguistics. Staff members have gained enhanced skills over several years of partnership working with organisations such as Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) and learndirect scotland, and with subject knowledge specialists in Italy, the Czech Republic and Scotland.
The R&D department will have the benefit of working across two locations – the principal company office at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, and the newly opened office at the Green House in Inverness.
Chris Mitchell, who will be heading up the R&SD office said: “For Cànan, this is a big opportunity. It allows us the opportunity to really investigate some of the product ideas we have in development, and to focus energy on meeting specific customer needs. It also provides the chance for the staff of the new department to work on key skill sets that will benefit us individually and as a company.”
Donella Beaton, Cànan’s Chief Executive, said “This department is of strategic importance to the company, and we hope, in the future, for Scotland.”
Cànan is grateful to Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise (SALE) for providing support for the company’s Research and Software Development activities.
